About Lehua

Lehua Custer (pronounced Lei-hoo-ah) is originally from Hawaii. After living in California for 20 years, she moved her business to Wellington, Fl in 2019 to fully commit to her invitation to join the USEF Development Program with goals of representing the US in international sport. She is available year round in Wellington for bespoke coaching and training packages, and offers off-site clinics and virtual lessons as requested.

  • USDF judges program “L” graduate with distinction
  • USDF certified instructor: Training – Second Level
  • 2017 Third Level National Champion
  • USEF Developing Team Member


  • Assistant Trainer to Olympian, Breeder and Judge, Hilda Gurney for 10 years
  • Lehua Custer Dressage head trainer, based out of Los Angeles Equestrian Center for 10 years
  • Coached many riders to Regional and National Championships
  • Dressage judge at the Special Olympic World Games in LA, 2015
  •  2x Recipient of Carol Lavell Grant
  • Trained multiple horses of various breeds to the FEI levels
  • Taken several horses through the FEI Young Horse Program 
  • Trained with Debbie McDonald 
  • Cliniced with Charlotte Dujardins, Carol Hester, Willy Arts, Debbie McDonald, Scott Hassler
  • Currently trains with Ali Brock
